About this item

  • Craspedia globosa, also known as Billy Button or Drumstick, is an annual flower native to New Zealand, Australia, and Tasmania. However, it can grow in Zones 3 - 10 as an annual plant.
  • Craspedia is ideal for cutting and drying, making it a popular dried addition to arrangements. The plants can reach a height of 24 inches and have bright yellow flower heads.
  • To start growing Craspedia, sow the seeds indoors 4 - 6 weeks before the last frost date. Gently press the seeds into the soil and lightly cover them with peat moss or garden sand, ensuring the seeds are kept moist. Germination usually occurs in 21 days when the temperature is between 70 - 75F.
  • Once the danger of frost has passed and the young plants have 2 sets of true leaves, transplant them outdoors. Billy Button thrives in full sun.
  • For optimal spacing, sow 3 - 4 seeds per plant and then thin or space them 12 inches apart.
