Erigeron is a versatile perennial that thrives in both low and high deserts. In hot areas, part shade is recommended, but it can handle full sun at higher elevations. The Profusion cultivar, a Mexican species, is particularly notable for its heavy blooming with small white daisy-like flowers.
This 8-inch perennial, also known as Santa Barbara Daisy or Fleabane, grows in USDA zones 5-8. In low deserts, it produces the most flowers in spring and fall, while it blooms profusely in summer in colder climates. As a spreading ground cover, it grows quickly to about 8 inches tall and 2-3 feet wide.
For easy planting, sow about 1,000 seeds to cover 20 square feet or plant 4 seeds per start to begin growing this low-growing ground cover.
